First solo album from drummer Daniel Szwed. Entitled “SUN’S MOTHER”, it consists of 8 instrumental pieces funded on dirty, industrial drum beats.
You might recognize Szwed as part of experimental duo BNNT who released a couple of albums on Instant Classic. Their latest one is “Middle West” from 2019. In his solo outlet Daniel still operates on tribal rhythmics but expands his sound spectrum to include more electronics and processed sounds. It’s a one-many army that has to be experienced in a live setting.
“I don’t feel like I’m moving too far away from my musical inspirations and previous recordings,” Szwed explains. “Of course I have taken up new tools and sounds but I did this only to step outside of my comfort zone and see where it takes me. I decided to use a small drum kit with an aim to create a contrast between how this instrument is perceived and how it actually sounds. It’s a constant struggle,” he adds.
„SUN’S MOTHER” is a solo endeavor with only a couple exceptions: in “MOSS” Szwed is joined by Polish cellist Resina and „HAMER” is based on a sample created by BNNT bandmate Konrad Smoleński. “It’s not like I am tired of working with other musicians. This solo project is only me wanting to create something new on my own, taking full responsibility for musical matter, sound or decision-making that I struggle with sometimes,” Daniel says.
The album was mixed and mastered by JESSICA (real name Mateusz Rosiński who handles electronics in Dynasonic band). Graphic design is made by Daniel Szwed.
